Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Children's and Youth Council
A Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Children's and Youth Council, in short SZSZBGYIÖK, a county student council community that supports the interest representation, community participation and active engagement of the county's young people.
Our aim is to help the school student councils operating in the county, and the teachers and adult helpers who support them. We think it is important that young people have the chance to form opinions, organise programmes, build communities, and represent the interests of their own age group in as many forums as possible.
A key task of SZSZBGYIÖK is to act as an information and professional base for the county's student councils. It organises programmes, trainings, meetings and community events, supports the operation of school student councils, and helps cooperation develop between young people, schools and youth communities.
Its activities include, among others:
It is important to SZSZBGYIÖK that young people are not just participants but also shapers of the county's youth life.
A Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Children's and Youth Council on 17 May 2007 was founded with the aim of providing professional and community support to the school student councils operating in the county and the adults who help them.
Already in the first years after its founding the organisation became an active player in the county's youth life. After its founding and member recruitment, it quickly began County Student Parliament of a fair that proved to be a useful professional and community occasion in the life of schools and student councils.
One of the community's outstanding early programmes was the the 5th National Student Week held in 2008, which as a jubilee event mobilised nearly 100 young people nationwide. This event was an important milestone in the life of SZSZBGYIÖK, as it offered a chance for meeting, exchanging experience, networking and thinking together.
Alongside professional programmes, SZSZBGYIÖK has always placed great emphasis on volunteering and promoting charitable activities. Young people took part in many events of this kind, and played an important role in programmes about acceptance, helping others, community responsibility and active participation.
Among these, the one launched several years ago stands out Run in the Light Sports and Family Day, which has become one of SZSZBGYIÖK's important, defining events. The programme created a special opportunity for young people, families and participants in different life situations to spend an experience-rich day together.
Over the years SZSZBGYIÖK's programmes have regularly included trainings, debate clubs, volunteer activities, county sports days, county student parliaments, as well as community and leisure events.
The story of SZSZBGYIÖK has ever since been about young people being able to think, organise and act together for each other and for their own communities. The county student council remains an important space where young people gain experience, grow, build relationships and become active players in community life.
