HABIDISZ

Association of Student Councils of Hajdú-Bihar County

About us

The Association of Student Councils of Hajdú-Bihar County (HABIDISZ) has brought together the county's secondary school students and school student councils since 2003. Our aim is to create opportunities for young people for community building, volunteering, self-development and advocacy, while they actively shape the student life of their own school and town.

Our programmes include trainings, volunteer actions, debate clubs, community events, sports programmes and international opportunities. We also provide professional support to school student councils and help young people realise their own ideas.

HABIDISZ operates with the professional support of KÖZ-Pont Youth Association, but its greatest value is the young people themselves: we deliver our programmes together with them, building on their ideas and initiatives.

Our story

HABIDISZ was founded in Berettyóújfalu in 2003 with the aim of bringing together the student councils of Hajdú-Bihar County and creating new opportunities for secondary school students. Already in the first year we launched the Summer Youth Festival, which was one of our organisation's defining programmes for many years. Since then our activity has continuously expanded: we started trainings for school student councils, organised volunteer programmes, and joined national and international youth collaborations. Since 2004 we have maintained active relations with Hungarian youth organisations across the border, especially in Transylvania, and carried out many joint programmes. Our members represented the young people of Hajdú-Bihar County at several international conferences, youth exchanges and professional meetings in many European countries.

Over the past two-plus decades HABIDISZ has given hundreds of young people the chance to build community, gain experience, grow and take an active part in shaping the student community where they live.

Today we still work with the same goal: to create as many opportunities as possible for the county's young people to grow, enjoy community experiences and realise their own ideas.
